Questions and answers :

How to install the CCID driver ?
Weneo implements CCID, which is the USB class for smart card readers.

Weneo uses the Microsoft generic CCID driver.

The generic CCID driver is shipped and built-in with Windows Vista and Windows Seven, so you do not need to install anything on these systems.

On Windows 2000, Windows Server 2003 and Windows XP, the CCIDdriver is downloaded from Windows Update when Weneo is plugged for the first time.

However, Windows Update services are not always available:. If you need an offline direct CCID drivers install, here they are :
- For 32 bits editions of Windows 2000 / 2003 / XP : usbccid_32bits.exe
- For 64 bits editions of Windows 2000 / 2003 / XP : usbccid_64bits.exe

What are the Weneo features ?

Weneo is a "Smart Object", a USB device containing a dual-interface (contact/contactless) smart card chip. When used in standalone mode, Weneo works exactly like a contactless smart card. When plugged into a PC ("connected mode"), Weneo provides connectivity to the PC and beyond to the Internet.

Weneo works like a smart card reader, which provides access to the applications present on the embedded smart card chip.

Weneo optionally includes a 1 GB mass-storage unit.

Back to the questions

What are the supported Operating Systems ?
Weneo is fully compatible with Windows 2000, Windows Server 2003, Windows XP, Windows Vista and Windows Seven (all editions).

The mass-storage unit feature is compatible with Microsoft Windows 95, 98, Me ; Apple Mac OS X and Linux distributions.

The smart card reader feature is compatible with Apple Mac OS X and some Linux distributions.

Back to the questions

What are the supported Web Browsers ?
A web browser may be used in "connected mode". Weneo works with Microsoft Internet Explorer (versions 6 and 7) and Mozilla Firefox (versions 2.x, 3.x). Other browsers are currently being validated.

Back to the questions

What are the supported contactless protocols ?
The supported contactless protocols directly depend on the embedded smart card chip. Standard protocols such as ISO/IEC 14443 (Type A or Type B) and other protocols (MIFARE®, FeliCa, Innovatron) may be supported.

Back to the questions

What are the supported smart card applications ?
Supported applications depend on the embedded smart card chip. A native chip usually comes with a fixed set of applications while it’s possible to implement and download any kind of applications with a Java Card compatible chip.

Back to the questions

How to communicate with the smart card embedded in Weneo ?
PC applications can then use the PC/SC API.

Back to the questions

What is Java 6 for ? How to install Java 6 ?
The Java 6 plug-in from Sun Microsystems is used by some web pages to communicate with Weneo in "connected mode".

The installation of the Java 6 plug-in is usually performed on the fly by a web page that requests it. If this is not the case, you can manually install the JRE 6 from the Sun Microsystems web site.

Recommended minimal version: Java Runtime Environment 6.0, Update 7
